Your questions are answered in the piece, I believe. For so long, views on addressing Africa's problems have been very divergent and numerous. The aim of the piece is to highlight the principals, so as to be better efficient at problem solving. As I mentioned in the piece, "there are a thousand and one co-conspirators," but arresting the main culprits will help toward defining a new Africa. And, that, is the new paradigm if you will call it so. As a fellow African, I am well aware that you know that the problem posited here is not new to the conversation, which is the point I make in the opening paragraph.

Pressure is important in attaining change. And the article shows (Africans, the West, etc) where that pressure is most needed in bringing about desirable change.

What is your opinion? Why is Africa’s progress hindered? Is Africa’s problem self-inflicted? At the commencement of your article, I thought you would provide a new paradigm of discussion or exploration regarding Africa’s plight. Yet, I saw the same recurring argument regarding Africa, which always points to the political elites. Why is it now that Western nations have frozen President Gaddafi’s assets?
I think Africa’s circumstance is complex and moves beyond the simplistic finger pointing at a few political elitist. The people can do more, but as always the case, those unwilling to organize and galvanize themselves for a true purpose bigger than self will always be taken advantage of, either by colonialist or their own African brothers or sisters.

I think the Republicans have spoken badly for America the past 8-10 years. At least permit the Democrats four years to undo years of entrenched habits that have enriched a few at the detriment of the general public.
So I finally saw the show....talk about EXCELLENT!! As a Nigerian, I did pick up on some inconsistency with regards to pronounciation and some cultural nuances. I too, was disappointed that there was only one Nigerian in the cast. But overall, it was an awesome show and very well done!

Came across your blog randomly, and your post is interesting, especially the last two lines, "Life happens....up to here" because the tagline of my blog, BlackGirlUNscripted, is "Because life just happens". And although I chose that tagline to acknowledge the fact that life is oftentimes unpredictable, I understand the need to still be pro-active in steering my life in the direction that I would like it to go in order to fulfill my purpose.

The one resolution that I have made this year is to not make any specific resolutions, but rather to take one day at a time, and find a way to be of service each day, or to better myself. That way, I can reflect on the past year come Dec 2010 and feel that I grew a little each day of my existence, and was relevant to someone in someway.
